My very first emergency room experience

I have always been a safe person. No major injuries or surgeries (c-section & wisdom teeth aside) to speak of. Well  that all changed. I had a busy agenda planned for today. I was going to go to my precept class, go to Home Depot and load up on plants, and then go home and finally do something with my flower beds. This morning went great. I had a wonderful class and learned a lot. I got to Home Depot, checked out, and then locked my keys in the truck. *smacks forehead*  Really?! I called my dad. He came, and got them out. Well, fast forward about an hour or two, I had just finished tilling up the flower bed. Scary right? Me using a tiller! That's not how I injured myself though. I decided to sweep up the dirt that had flew out. The cheap-o metal broom snapped in half and some how came back down on my finger. Long story short I now have 7 stitches in my ring finger.

Worst. Day. Ever.

She's done!

Ahhh I am so in love with my new living room color.  Once again it is grizzle gray by Sherwin Williams and it is perfect. And it's finished just in time for fall. I can't wait to decorate!

Change of plans

On one of my home remodeling posts, I said we were planning to start on our bathrooms and finish with our living room/kitchen. Well that hasn't happened like I planned. I have bought tile for our guest bath but that's as far as we have gotten. I have also been trying out paint samples in our living room. I know I originally said I wanted Benjamin Moore Manchester tan, but I have decided I want color. I hate having a tan living room. Our last two houses have had tan living rooms. So I decided on gray. Whoo I am really living on the edge I know! Anyways I think I have decided on Sherwin Williams Grizzle Gray.
It's dark, I know, but I LOVE it!

In other news, my chickens have started laying eggs! This was our first one.
It's so tiny! I hope they start getting bigger.

My baby boy is growing up too fast!

I know it has been a couple months since I posted, but this summer has gotten away from me. In June we celebrated Tytan's first birthday! Where has the time gone? Here are few pics from the big day:

I think Mr. Man's first birthday party was a great success.

Before his party, we got his hair cut for the first time. I was gung-ho about holding off until he was actually one until we did it. This poor kid was this close to going blind from the hair in his eyes.

And then a month later I got his hair cut even shorter.

Seriously, I feel like I don't even know this precious little boy. Am I going to feel like this after every haircut?

Posting from afar

We are in the great state of Texas, where everything really is bigger. A long way from home, but we are having a wonderful vacation visiting family.  I thought I would take the time to post a quick life update post. So here we go

First off, meet Tornado Tytan. Is this just my child? Is it every child? Or maybe just a boy thing? Either way, my house is always in a perpetual state of destruction. Will he grow out of this anytime soon?! These pictures don't even do him justice.

Next up: chicken coop progress

This isn't even the most updated picture. Sorry! Since my last blog post about the coop, we have put up a (partial) roof, siding, and linoleum flooring. Not pictured, we have a door up and put hardware cloth over the windows so we could move our babies into their new home (which they looove). They were growing out of their brooder box.

I don't know if you can tell, but he is playing with a loose thread on his blanket and sock. This kid is OBSESSED with strings! If he ever finds one on the ground or even one of my hairs, he will play with it forever. It is pretty funny, because from a few feet away it looks like he is just doing weird things with his hands. Look at that concentration & dem lips!

My baby giving me kisses. Yep anyways we are have a blast on vacation and plan on stopping by the beach on our way home! :)

Home Remodeling: Part 2

After we get around to finishing the bathroom, we will start on the living room/kitchen. We have an open floor plan so we will do them both at the same time. This is going to be a major project. We have 12 foot vaulted ceilings, of which needs re-taped and mudded. We have to paint, put down tile in the kitchen, and redecorate (my favorite!). We also want to find an insert for our fire place. Alright, on to the pictures...

We have actually already started and almost finished this project. I will post about it later. I am in love with my table though! I love the look of hydrangeas in a vase. So simple yet so amazing.

I don't think Jake is going to let me paint our front door blue, but isn't that just beautiful? A girl can dream...

Home Remodeling: Part 1

It has been about 6 months since we moved into our new home. Since then we have been doing small projects here and there. Right now, all of our time and money is focused on the chicken coop. Once it is finished, I want to start on our master bathroom. We plan on painting, putting down tile, putting in new counter tops, new sinks and a new toilet. I wanted to put all of my ideas on here so they are all in one location. That way I can stay focused! So here are a few of the ideas I want to see come to life...

Chocolate brown walls from here. Clean looking counter tops, and a framed mirror.

Shelf and towel rack behind the tub found here. shelves behind the toilet, and for that weird place behind the bathroom door: more shelves! You can never have too much storage. Glass tile around the sink.

We eventually plan on making over the whole house, but we have forever to get it done. I have to pace myself, so I don't become overwhelmed. I will share all my ideas (thanks to pinterest) soon.

He's gone country!

My husband is a total city boy, but I think I am turning him country. Since we moved out of the city, we decided to do a garden. We have planted tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, corn, peas, and squash. I am excited to see how it does. I am also excited to see how happy my husband is over this. Never in a million years would I have expected to see Jake tilling up the ground. He actually enjoys it too!

He also surprised me when he jumped on the chicken bandwagon. We visited our friends in Mississippi back in February. They had about 5 chickens in their backyard at the time. Jake tried a fresh fried egg and loved it. What really made him want chickens? He witnessed a rooster catch and kill a mouse. Yeah...he is such a guy. So we went and got chicks at the local co-op. Then I found more I wanted a week later.

Yep, that's right, thirteen chickens. Where are these guys going to live? In the Perry Palace, of course!

It's not finished yet, but by the time the chicks are able to move in, it will be. I am so pumped about this coop. We got our inspiration from here.
I can't wait!

2013

I can't believe it is 2013 and that January is almost over. This year is already speeding by. Time spins fast and you cannot stop it. I pray that this year will be a great one. I pray it is a year of fun and laughter, a year of love and family, and a year of watching my baby boy grow and become an adorable toddler. I am a little late to writing this new years post, but here it is. Valentine's Day is up next. As of now we have no real plans. Maybe we will just cozy up in front of a fire and cuddle our love bug. Sounds good to me.
Happy Valentine's Day!
